Shopify automation beyond the app store

Most Shopify stores reach a point where the apps stop fitting — orders need routing by rules nobody anticipated, stock lives in another system, or fulfilment data has to reach somewhere with no integration.

COMMON REQUESTS

What people ask me to build

These come up repeatedly. If yours isn’t listed, it’s usually still possible — describe it and I’ll tell you honestly.

ORDERS

Orders where your team works

Order data routed into Sheets, Slack or a project tool the moment it lands, formatted for the people who act on it.

FULFILMENT

Status kept in step

Fulfilment and tracking updates written back to Shopify from a warehouse, 3PL or spreadsheet.

INVENTORY

Stock that agrees across systems

Levels synced between Shopify and whatever else holds them, with rules for which source wins.

METAFIELDS

Custom data, managed in bulk

Creating, updating and clearing metafields across products without touching them one at a time.

ACCOUNTING

Sales into the books

Orders, refunds and fees into QuickBooks or Xero in the shape your accountant asked for.

REPORTING

Numbers your dashboard doesn’t show

Custom reports assembled on a schedule from order, product and customer data.

WHERE IT GETS DIFFICULT

The part that isn’t in the documentation

For a content and casting business I built more than twenty automations around Shopify orders, Google Sheets and Slack — order data, creator assignments and team notifications all routing themselves. The complexity wasn’t any single connection. It was that the same order had to appear in three places in three different shapes, and that the assignment logic changed depending on the product. That kind of thing is why store owners outgrow apps.

If you’re paying for four apps that almost do what you need, one scenario usually replaces them.

QUESTIONS

Shopify specifics

Will this need a custom Shopify app?

Usually not. Most work runs through the standard API with a private access token. I’ll say clearly if your case needs more.

Can you sync Shopify with my ERP?

Yes. I’ve built order and inventory flows into ERP systems including ones with no Shopify integration of their own.

What about high order volume?

Volume is mostly a question of structure and rate limits. Both are solvable, but they change how the build should be shaped, so it’s worth mentioning early.

What should Shopify be doing that it isn’t?

Describe it in a paragraph. I’ll tell you what it would take — or tell you honestly it isn’t worth it.
